TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index edged slightly higher in late-morning trading Tuesday, while U.S. stock markets were down.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 6.48 points at 22,092.08.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped 42.98 points at 34,878.90. The S&P 500 index was down 20.30 points at 4,560.73, while the Nasdaq composite was down 204.22 points at 14,328.33.
The Canadian dollar traded for 80.31 cents US compared with 80.06 cents US on Tuesday.
The May crude contract was up 25 cents at US$103.53 per barrel and the May natural gas contract was up 38 cents at US$6.10 per mmBTU.
The June gold contract was up 20 cents at US$1,934.20 an ounce and the May copper contract was up four cents at US$4.79 a pound.
